Bojangles Entertainment Complex Receives GBAC STAR™ Facility Accreditation for Cleaning Protocols

CHARLOTTE, N.C. October 19, 2020

The Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority (CRVA) is pleased to announce that Bojangles Entertainment Complex has received the Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC) STAR™ Facility Accreditation, making it the second CRVA-managed venue, and one of the first facilities in North Carolina, to earn this distinction. This announcement comes on the heels of the completion of a $20 million construction project at the BOplex, which added 35,000 square feet to the complex and included a new pedestrian connection between Bojangles Coliseum and Ovens Auditorium, officially uniting the two historic venues as one.

ISSA introduced the GBAC STAR™ accreditation program earlier this year as the cleaning industry’s only outbreak prevention, response and recovery accreditation. Under the guidance of GBAC, Bojangles Entertainment Complex has implemented the most stringent protocols for cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention and demonstrated compliance with and commitment to the program's 20 core elements. Program elements range from standard operating procedures and risk assessment strategies to personal protective equipment (PPE) and emergency preparedness measures.

“We are proud that two of our facilities, the Charlotte Convention Center and now Bojangles Entertainment Complex, have earned the GBAC STAR™ Facility Accreditation, making them some of the first facilities in North Carolina to earn this distinction," said Tom Murray, Chief Executive Officer of the CRVA. “This accreditation, in conjunction with numerous other precautionary steps we have taken in response to COVID-19, allows facilities like Bojangles Entertainment Complex, two historic venues and important economic drivers for the East Charlotte neighborhood, to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the health and safety of our employees and our guests."

Bojangles Entertainment Complex is among a growing group of convention centers, arenas and public venues from around the world to achieve accreditation, signaling that employees are trained with best work practices, protocols, procedures and systems for biorisk prevention and containment. Additionally, with the guidance of the CDC, FDA and a contracted infection disease control expert, the CRVA has created and implemented a comprehensive “We Clean with Care” program in its managed venues.

The historic Ovens Auditorium and Bojangles Coliseum opened on Independence Boulevard in 1955 and have been significant economic drivers for East Charlotte and the city as a whole ever since. Ovens Auditorium was the city's first civic auditorium and Bojangles Coliseum was its first dedicated sports and concert venue. Over the years, the multipurpose venues have evolved to host a wide array of shows, including top-touring concerts, sporting events, family shows, comedy shows, Broadway, symphony and opera performances, nationally-recognized speakers, graduations and other diverse entertainment events.
